NASA’s Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer (EZIE) mission, launched on March 14, 2025, aims to map the structure and evolution of auroral electrojets—intense electric currents in Earth’s ionosphere linked to auroras and space weather. These currents, flowing ~70 miles above Earth’s surface, carry up to 1 million amps and are driven by interactions between the solar wind and Earth’s magnetic field.
